What to bid
Rough bid guideWe could not match this listing to auction results for its exact reference, so there is no bid ladder. Here is a rough guide from what dealers ask for the 19 most similar watches instead.
- The house estimates
- USD 18,000 – 22,000
- If it sells like the rest
- about USD 18,540 hammer
At Ahlers & Ogletree, watches that sold went for a median 1.03× their low estimate (the middle half 0.91–1.26×), from 84 results; unsold lots are not counted. Estimates are set by the house to draw bidders, so treat this as context, not a valuation.
Bought here, the buyer's premium, shipping, and import VAT and duty to Denmark add about 32% to the hammer. Stop at about USD 3,900 and you pay 20% less than a dealer's USD 6,486: a fair discount for buying without a dealer's warranty or return. A rough guide from the 19 most similar Rolex Oyster Perpetual listings (USD 6,486 – 11,376), not the same reference; the listing doesn't say steel or gold, so we take the cheaper quarter of what dealers ask.
Before you bidfive checks
- The seller guarantees in writing that the watch is genuine and takes it back if it is not.
- The photos show the case back, clasp, and the serial and reference numbers between the lugs. Ask for them if not.
- You know every fee: the buyer's premium (often 20–25% online), shipping and insurance, and import VAT.
- "New", "polished" and "electronically tested" prove nothing: polished means it has been worked on, and an electronic test checks gold, not a watch.
- Decide your maximum before the sale and don't go above it.
