Crawl and display policy
Lot & Lume is a search engine for watches for sale. It sends buyers to the houses; it does not replace them.
How we crawl
- Our crawler identifies itself as
LotAndLumein the User-Agent, with a link to this page. - We obey
robots.txt, includingCrawl-delay, and machine-readable opt-outs. We never log in, never create accounts, and never bypass access controls. - We fetch at most one request at a time per site, with several seconds between requests, a few times a day.
- Platforms whose terms forbid automated access are not crawled. Where they offer an API or an affiliate programme, we use that.
What we display
- Facts: title, house, lot number, estimate, current bid or result, sale date, and a link to the lot at the house.
- We do not republish catalogue descriptions.
- Photos are embedded from the house's own website at thumbnail size and are never copied to our servers. Embedding publicly available content without circumventing any protection measure is not a new communication to the public under EU law (CJEU BestWater C‑348/13, GS Media C‑160/15, VG Bild‑Kunst C‑392/19); image search thumbnails rest on the same footing. Every photo is credited and linked to the house. Houses that prefer not to be embedded can tell us once and we comply within 48 hours.
- Our own data: which brand and model we recognised, the fit to a user's hunt, and a landed-price estimate.
Takedown
If you run an auction house or marketplace and do not want to appear, write to hello@lotandlume.com with your domain. We de-index within 48 hours and add the domain to our block list, which is enforced at ingest and display. If you would rather send us a feed and receive bidders, we would love that too.
Personal data
We index lots, not people. Private sellers' names are not stored. Account data is used only to run your hunts and deliver your alerts.
